  NAACP Chapter Calls on UConn Administration to 'Apply the Proper Justice' After Students Filmed Shouting N-Word The NAACP UConn chapter also demanded the Delta Epsilon Psi fraternity be disbanded after two members allegedly called a student a racial slur during an off-campus party.One of the incidents was reported to the Connecticut State Police and allegedly involved two Delta Epsilon Psi members who were accused of calling a student a racial slur at an off-campus party October 12. Another incident, which was caught on camera October 11, showed three male students walking through the parking lot of the Charter Oak Apartments, which is on-campus student housing, screaming the N-word.

The students face disciplinary action from UConn , including expulsion, for potential violations of the university ’s code of conduct. But it is the criminalization of bigoted and derogatory language that is drawing criticism. “Before an arrest warrant is executed, it must be approved by a judge ,'' Reitz said.

Ryan Mucaj, 21, of Granby, is due in Rockville Superior Court.

He and classmate Jarred Karal were arrested earlier this month after video of them shouting the "n word" near the Charter Oak Apartments on the Storrs campus was posted to social media.

The students told police that they were playing a game to see who could yell inappropriate words the loudest.

Police charged them with ridicule on account of creed, religion, color, denomination, nationality or race.

News of the incident sparked rallies on the campus and calls for change by students and the school's NAACP chapter.
