Officials believe Tavon Thomas was the one who pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Nikolette Rivera.Officials believe Thomas was the one who pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Rivera.
Detective Sgt. Todd Elliott of the Battle Creek Police Department said Wednesday that detectives believe Kellie-Sims is the person who fired a single shot that struck Williams, 23, in the chest outside a home at 26 W. Northside Drive about 3:47 a.m. Saturday.
Williams was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where he was pronounced dead.
Elliott said detectives concluded Kellie-Sims was the gunman after evaluating the evidence and based on witness interviews.
Between 15 and 20 people were at the house at the time of the shooting, police believe, and several were still there when the first officers arrived minutes after the shooting.
Elliott said police still believe that Williams was not the intended target.
24-year-old Nashville woman charged in shooting death of her 23-year-old girlfriend
Keriesha Majors faces a criminal homicide charge stemming from the fatal shooting of Kaylin Smith in the Bordeaux neighborhood. A Metro Nashville police investigation found the women were visiting an apartment Sunday morning when an argument turned physical. Smith was killed after she and Majors stepped outside, police said in a news release on Sunday. Majors left the scene but later surrendered to officers downtown, police said. She is jailed on a $600,000 bond.
"We believe there was an argument or fight in the house that resulted in the gunfire outside," Elliott said, adding that Williams is not believed to have been involved in the fight or argument.
Elliott said police now believe three people may have been firing shots.
Officers at the scene said as many as 20 shots were fired and one gun, which investigators said was brought by Williams, was recovered at the scene and may have been the gun that fired the shot that killed him.
Elliott would only say that the investigation is continuing and that police are awaiting results of DNA and ballistics.
Gilbert declined to comment on the case other than to say the investigation is continuing.
Elliott said two other people who were at the scene were arrested on unrelated charges and that police are seeking another person of interest.
The homicide was the fourth this year in Battle Creek.
