Texas officer shot during traffic stop, 2 suspects held
Authorities say a North Texas police officer is in critical but stable condition after being shot during a traffic stop, and two suspects who fled were later taken into custody and hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Denton police say the officer pulled the suspects' vehicle over for an equipment violation around midnight Monday in Denton, located about 40 miles (64 kilometers) northwest of Dallas. Police say backup officers at the scene returned fire after the officer was shot. The suspects' vehicle was later spotted by police in the nearby city of Carrollton, and they were taken into custody after a short pursuit.
Texas investigators are looking to speak with an unidentified man and woman in connection with the deaths of a man and woman from New Hampshire, authorities announced at a Monday news conference.
James and Michelle Butler, 48 and 46, were found dead late last month on Padre Island near where they were last seen. Relatives said the couple had been traveling the country in a pickup truck and recreational vehicle.
Their deaths have been ruled homicides. Authorities said they would not release the manner of their deaths because the details were important to the investigation.
Missing NH Couple Confirmed Dead In Texas, Police Look For Killer
The two dead bodies found on a beach in Corpus Christi have been identified as the bodies of a New Hampshire couple reported missing last month, according to a county sheriff's office in Texas.James Butler, 48, and his wife, 46-year-old Michelle, are believed to be dead as of Friday evening. According to police, they were reported missing on Oct. 23 after friends and family lost contact with them.
Police said the man they are looking to speak with has gauges in his ears. They also said both persons of interest have tattoos.
Authorities said they believe the man and and woman they are interested in speaking with are likely local to the Corpus Christi area.
Authorities released a surveillance image of the persons of interest.

-- Oct. 21: The vehicles were seen on surveillance images crossing the southern border into Mexico.
-- Oct. 23: Family members reported the couple missing after they missed a scheduled call.
-- Oct. 27: The bodies of James and Michelle Butler were found buried in shallow graves on a beach in the Corpus Christi area.
The Butlers were remembered at a vigil Sunday in Rumney as caring people who were always willing to lend a helping hand to people in their community.

The male has large holes, earrings, in his ears, often called gages.
