  South Dakota executes man in '92 slaying of former co-worker SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A man who fatally stabbed a former co-worker who interrupted him during a 1992 burglary was executed Monday in South Dakota. Charles Russell Rhines died by lethal injection at the state prison in Sioux Falls at 7:39 p.m. Rhines had brushed off a plea for mercy from 22-year-old Donnivan Schaeffer in the slaying at a Rapid City doughnut shop. Rhines was supposed to be executed at 1:30 p.m., but the state delayed the execution until the U.S. Supreme Court denied three appeals from Rhines on Monday evening.Rhines, who was 63 years old, last week unsuccessfully challenged the drug the state used in the execution at the state prison in Sioux Falls.

ATLANTA — A federal judge on Monday rejected a Georgia inmate’s argument that his execution , scheduled for Tuesday evening, should be stayed because the state had refused to disclose details about the drug to be used in his lethal injection.

The Georgia man sentenced to die Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, has launched another last-ditch appeal aimed at supporting his claims of innocence. A judge in September declined their request for DNA testing and for a new trial, and Cromartie would be the third prisoner executed in Georgia this year.

U.S. District Judge Mark Treadwell, in an order late Tuesday, rejected new claims of innocence from Ray Jefferson Cromartie.

Cromatie was convicted of malice murder and sentenced to death for April 1994’s slaying of Thomasville convenience store clerk Richard Slysz.

Treadwell says a new claim from Cromartie’s half-brother claiming he overhead co-defendant Corey Clark say that Clark, not Cromartie, shot the clerk doesn’t provide “new reliable evidence” of Cromartie’s innocence.

The judge also says Cromartie’s lawyers should have offered the evidence before now.

Lawyers for Cromatie are moving to ask the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn the judge’s ruling.

Campaigners advocating for Reed's release claim he is innocent and celebrities, including Kim Kardashian West, urged Abbott to stop the execution as new evidence could exonerate the 51-year-old.

Judge Warriner denied the petition. A case involving another of the 17 convicts awaiting execution in Virginia is pending here before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Mr. Coppola attended a Roman Catholic seminary briefly and later was a policeman for two years.

The Indonesian government executed eight drug convicts Wednesday, including seven foreigners. The execution of a ninth convict was unexpectedly postponed.

Ray Jefferson Cromartie is scheduled to die Wednesday evening at the state prison in Jackson. He was convicted of malice murder and sentenced to death for April 1994's slaying of Richard Slysz at a Thomasville convenience store.

The state says Cromartie, accompanied by another man, shot Slysz. Authorities say Cromartie also shot and gravely injured another clerk days earlier.

Cromartie says he didn't shoot either clerk. His lawyers still seek DNA testing on evidence from the shootings, but courts have so far rejected them.

The execution was delayed last month after a trial court judge was found to have filed an execution order while Cromartie had a Supreme Court appeal pending.
