Police in Dover are investigating the death of an 5-year-old boy.

Lt. Brant Dolleman said the department received a 911 call just after 9 a.m. Saturday, reporting the child was found unresponsive by family.

Police and paramedics rushed to the Summer Street home, but it was too late. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This is a terrible tragedy for everybody involved, including friends and family of this young boy,” Dolleman said. “It's a terrible tragedy, quite frankly, for the paramedics and patrol officers that have to respond to these types of things.”

Investigators said they had a person of interest in the boy 's death , but stopped short of labeling the person a suspect, the The nature of the boy 's fatal injury wasn't disclosed by police . Emergency crews were called to a home about 5 :30 a.m. CST and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 5 - year - old boy was found dead in his home in Dover, N . H ., Saturday morning, officials said. The Dover Police Department and the state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are currently investigating the death , police said in a statement.

Very few details are being released at this time.

Police are not calling this death suspicious and the cause of death is unknown.

"That's what's under investigation. We're working with the office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine that. The next step into this investigation is to have an autopsy,” Dolleman said.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Sunday.

Investigators are hoping it will provide some insight into how a young life was cut short.

“Our hearts go out to the family. It’s really just too bad,” Dolleman said.

Meantime, officials are asking anyone with information to contact the department.

“While we always want people to reach out to the police department, there's not specific information we're expecting the public to bring forward in this case particular case. But certainly, if people have information, we want them to feel free to come forward,” Dolleman said.
