  Suspect tries to evade Houston police by going wrong direction on freeway A chase suspect was apprehended after he tried to get away by going the wrong way on a major freeway overnight, Houston police said. Officers with the Houston Police Department tried to stop a driver in Chevrolet SUV at about 2:30 a.m. Friday. The driver went from Airline, turning northbound onto the southbound frontage road lanes along I-45 North. Houston TranStar cameras showed the driver then got on the mainlanes of the freeway traveling in the wrong direction before he got out and ran away.© Provided by TEGNA Inc.Police were able to locate the suspect east of the freeway a few minutes later, near Nording and Tidwell. He was taken into custody without further incident.

According to a San Francisco Police spokesperson, the ranger was in his vehicle when he witnessed a driver yelling at other motorists in the vicinity of the 7th Street off-ramp of I-80 at 7:04 a.m. The ranger followed the suspect vehicle onto the Central Freeway, where the suspect vehicle crashed into the center divider of the connector ramp. The ranger pulled up to offer assistance, at which time the suspect lunged at the ranger with a knife and stabbed him.

Passersby stopped and managed to detain the suspect, while also coming to the aid of the ranger. San Francisco Police officers arrived and placed the suspect in custody. He was transported to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.

The ranger was treated by medics at the scene and released.

Traffic lanes were closed as police conducted an investigation.

The names of the suspect and the ranger have not been released.
