Crime Accused Logan trespasser arrangement pushed back following hospitalization

New details about the man accused of sneaking onto the Logan Airport tarmac and into a plane’s cargo hold were released Tuesday as the suspect missed his scheduled arraignment because he was in a mental-health facility.

Sergiu Parfeni, 31, of Malden, is accused of sneaking through a secure door, going down a back staircase and wandering around on the tarmac, at one point clambering into the cargo hold of a jet, delaying its takeoff.

Parfeni was due to be arraigned Tuesday morning on charges of trespassing, disorderly conduct and interfering with the operation of an aircraft. But a mental-health facility faxed the East Boston District Court before his Tuesday arraignment to say that he wouldn’t be making it, as he’s hospitalized.

Parfeni will remain free on $250 bail until what’s now a Friday arraignment. Judge John MacDonald — presiding over the proceedings after more than an hour’s wait for the prosecutor to show up following her car being towed and an ensuing long MBTA ride in a snow storm — said he’d issue a warrant if Parfeni doesn’t show up to that.

The court released the police report state troopers filed following Parfeni’s alleged jaunt among the planes Monday. Troopers say Parfeni set off an alarm as he exited Terminal C onto the tarmac, where he cut from one gate to another about 100 yards across an “active airplane taxiing area.”

He then hopped up into the cargo hold of a JetBlue flight, delaying for the passengers on board by half an hour a departure for Cleveland, according to the documents.

Troopers took him into custody after he climbed the stairs outside a different gate and tried to get in, the report states. The staties say he proceeded to be generally uncooperative, shouting profanities and singing rather than answering questions. Authorities have said it appears Parfeni never had any “terrorist intent.”
