Police evacuated and searched Brooklyn Tech High School in Fort Greene for several hours Thursday after administrators received an email bomb threat that ultimately turned out to be a hoax, officials said.

The email was received about 7 a.m., just before the beginning of the school day at the Fort Greene Place school, stranding scores of high schoolers outside in the cold.

“The school received a potential threat via email, which was immediately sent to the NYPD for a thorough investigation,” Brooklyn Tech Principal David Newman wrote in an email to students and parents. “This was before the start of the school day and any students and staff in the building were immediately and safely evacuated.”

The threat was specific enough to “warrant a search of the building" a police source with knowledge of the case said.

“We are in close contact with the NYPD, and will not re-enter the building until they clear it,” Newman wrote.

Nothing dangerous was found inside the school, which resumed class around 11:15 a.m.

“The NYPD cleared the building, all students and staff are safe, and they are returning for the remainder of the school day,” city Department of Education spokeswoman Miranda Barbot said in a statement. "We’ll continue to closely monitor this school and provide additional security.”

The 6,000 teens that make up the prestigious school’s student body poured into nearby Fort Greene Park as they waited for the all clear. After about an hour, they were told they could warm up at Long Island University a short distance away.

Trump says impeachment inquiry is a 'hoax' being used for political gain

“I’ve been here for eight years and never seen this happen,” said one teacher, who wished not to be named. “It’s like herding cats.”

“These evacuations happen, but with 6,000 students and you can’t operate (these incidents) like a speedboat,” added teacher Javier Villa. “It’s a cruise liner, you can’t just turn it on a dime."

As they stood idle for close to two hours, students and teachers remained in the dark about what was happening.

Some students were told that a gas leak had forced the evacuation. Others speculated that someone sent in the threat to avoid taking an important social studies exam.

“We’ve had other bomb threats,” said another teacher who wished not to be named. “They need some kind of app to notify teachers and students. That’s what’s causing such confusion.”

While some high schoolers would take the opportunity to cut class, Brooklyn Tech students were standing firm and ready to get back to school, the teacher said.

“Tech students don’t like to miss class," the teacher said. "Other students would have left already.”

Hong Kong police say bombs left in school grounds defused .
Hong Kong police said they defused two homemade nail bombs discovered in the grounds of a school, and are investigating whether the devices were linked to political unrest in the city. Senior superintendent Li Kwai-wah said police were investigating whether the two devices were linked. The discovery of a bomb came a day after police said a semi-automatic pistol and more than 100 rounds of ammunition were discovered in a raid on protesters. Five people in their early 20s appeared in court on Monday charged with intent to wound and were denied bail. Two were also charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
