KCFD: Woman killed in early-morning house fire
The Kansas City Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fatal house fire that happened early Wednesday morning. Fire crews were called to a home in the 5300 block of Northeast Munger Avenue around 7 a.m. A neighbor saw smoke and called 911. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the single-story home. Sign up for our Newsletters KCFD Deputy Chief Jimmy Walker initially said two people were found dead at the scene of the fire. Firefighters later determined only one person had died. Authorities said a woman was found dead inside a bedroom of the home. She was the only person home at the time of the fire.

A Houston police officer was rushed to the hospital after a suspected drunk driver crashed into his police cruiser on Saturday morning. The incident happened at around 1 a.m. Saturday morning on Tidwell Road near John Ralston. The HPD officer was on a special assignment and had pulled over to the side of the road on Tidwell. Officials said the officer, who was aware the street had no outlet, did not give chase. They said the woman lost control of the vehicle and slammed into a home before overturning near the intersection of Steed Court.
Police said the woman behind the wheel was pronounced dead at the scene. The male passenger was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. No one inside the home was hurt.
The extent of the damage to the home is still being assessed.
Detectives are working to determine what exactly lead up to the crash.
College Heights Drive is closed from the 70000 block up to Steed Court due to the crash investigation. Officials ask drivers to use alternative routes.
Woman Killed, 2 People Injured After Car Slams Into Simi Valley Home
A man and a woman were rushed to the hospital, but a woman who remained trapped inside was declared dead at the scene.
