MARSHALL - A Marshall gynecologist is denying he sexually groped a 16-year-old girl eight years ago, his attorney said Tuesday.

"The allegation is from 2011 and we don't think it has any credence," said J. Thomas Schaeffer, a Marshall defense attorney.  "It is what in vogue. I have been retained recently on six or eight 'me too' sort of cases.

"Everyone who gets close to the holidays has a revelation about something 10 years ago that made them feel uncomfortable."

Dr. Mark Walker, 55, an obstetrician and gynecologist in Marshall since 1995 was arraigned Thursday in Calhoun County District Court on a charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. The charge is a high court misdemeanor, which is viewed by law  as a misdemeanor but carries a penalty as though it is a felony of up to two years in prison.

Dr. George Tyndall, a gynecologist who practiced at the University of Southern California for almost 30 years, was charged Wednesday with 18 counts of sexual assault , according to a criminal complaint filed by prosecutors in Los Angeles.

Calhoun County Prosecutor David Gilbert said that the charge alleges that Walker, in the words of the complaint, "did engage in sexual contact with another person using force or coercion."

Gilbert declined further comment on the case.

Walker appeared for his arraignment and was released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond. Schaeffer and prosecutors are scheduled to meet Thursday for a pre-exam conference and a preliminary examination is scheduled Dec. 19 before Judge Tracie Tomak.

The victim's mother told the Enquirer that her daughter, then a student at Marshall High School, had been enrolled in a health program at the Calhoun Area Career Center and assigned as part of the curriculum as a job shadow in a doctor's office in Marshall.

The name of the mother and of her daughter are not being used because the Enquirer does not use identify alleged victims of sexual assault.

The then-teen was approached by Walker, the mother said, and "asked to go into a room with him. She didn't have any clue about what was going on and he groped her crotch area. She was mortified."

However, the mother said her daughter never told her or apparently anyone else about the incident.

"She never said a word about it to me," the mother said.

Then in 2017 Walker offered the sister of the alleged victim an internship as part of a nursing program, the mother said.

It was then the victim revealed the incident as a warning to her sister, the mother said.

That was two years ago and the mother said she didn't know what to do about the allegation and talked with several people, including Sexual Assault Services and attorneys until the mother and daughter reported it to Marshall police about six months ago.
