Harvey Sander, 70, and Patricia Sander, 73, were discovered by police in an upstairs bedroom of the Pontius Road home they bought together in 1988.

A 911 call brought the Delhi Township police to the house at 3:25 a.m.

A female voice, who sounded as though in pain, was heard on the call, according to a Delhi police news release. The caller said his wife was "in constant pain and nothing else could be done," according to the release.

"I just want you to tell my family that I love them and there's just nothing we can do here," the caller told the dispatcher.

A few seconds later, two gunshots were heard in the background. All communication ended after the sounds of gunshots.

Based on the information given to dispatch, police brought in a SWAT team and entered the house two hours later.

James Howarth, chief of the Delhi Township Police Department, said it appears to be a murder-suicide situation. He said one of the persons suffered from "chronic pain."

The coroner reported that the circumstance of Harvey Sander's death was "apparent suicide" and the circumstance for Patricia Sander's death was "apparent homicide."

The incident remains under investigation.
