Of eight managerial and three GM vacancies since the end of the 2019 season in Major League Baseball, only one was filled by a person of color. The league can fine players for anything from wearing the wrong type of shoes to throwing their helmet after a strikeout.
A man convicted of killing two doctors in South Boston was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Bampumim Teixeira, 33, was convicted in Suffolk County Superior Court in the May 2017 stabbing deaths of Drs. Richard Field and Lina Bolanos.
Officials said Teixeira had no known personal relationship with the victims but worked briefly as a concierge in their building.
But Teixeira told investigators he had been having an affair with Bolanos. Field, he claimed, came home, became enraged and killed Bolanos. Teixeira said he then killed Field in self-defense.

Paul Skalnik has a decadeslong criminal record and may be one of the most prolific jailhouse informants in U.S. history. The state of Florida is planning to execute a man based largely on his word. When Detective John Halliday paid a visit to the Pinellas County Jail on Dec. 4, 1986, his highest-profile murder case was in trouble. Halliday, who was 35 and investigated homicides for the local sheriff’s office, had spent more than a decade policing Pinellas County, a peninsula edged by white-sugar-sand beaches on Florida’s Gulf Coast, west of Tampa. It is a place that outpaces virtually all other counties in the nation in the number of defendants it has sentenced to death.
Bolanos, 38, was a pediatric anesthesiologist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. Field, 49, was an anesthesiologist at North Shore Pain Management.
Teixeira, who had several outbursts before the verdict was read, told the judge he did not want to be in the courtroom during the sentencing.
