SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Five people are in custody after they crashed a minivan into a Shaker Heights Walgreens in a failed attempt to steal an ATM.

The crash happened about 4 a.m. at the store located on Chagrin Boulevard and Chelton Road, Shaker Heights Police Commander John Cole said. Police arrested five people.

Shaker Heights police have not said if anyone suffered serious injury.

Police received a 911 call within minutes after the minivan crashed into the store. Officers arrived at the store a short time later and saw the crashed van stuck in the front door of the building. They found the five men both inside and outside the store.

Several tried to run from police, but officers captured.

The store was closed as of 11 a.m., and the front entrance remains blocked by yellow tape.

Several construction trucks were parked outside the entrance as a worker swept the debris at the front entrance.

Calls to the store were not immediately returned after employees at the store declined to talk.
