Qassem Soleimani Killing Leaves Trump’s Middle East Strategy in Tatters

Qassem Soleimani Killing Leaves Trump’s Middle East Strategy in Tatters U.S. President Donald Trump and his top aides spent the weekend arguing that the killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani would deter future attacks and make the Middle East safer. Instead, U.S. policy in the region seems to be going in the opposite direction of what Trump has long promised -- with more U.S. troops going in, not fewer; an Iran defiant, not cowed and broken by sanctions; and regional allies giving only lukewarm support to Trump’s airstrike instead of rallying around it.Economic costs of the strike are also mounting: oil surged above $70 a barrel on Monday and equities around the world extended losses.

It happened Wednesday night around 9:45 p.m. at NW 135th Street and NW 30th Avenue.

Arriving officers found a woman who had been struck laying in the street. She died on the scene.

Family members identified the woman as Deandra Bradley, a mother of three who was in her 30s.

Bradley’s aunt told CBS4 that she was walking with one of her children when she was struck. They say she was able to push her son out of the way, but was unable to save herself.

Police say the driver who hit Bradley did not stop or try to render aid.

“The biggest concern we have here is it was just a traffic accident. That’s all we know at this point. So it’s very disheartening to leave someone’s mother, sister, daughter or whomever on the roadway and that person leave the scene of this traffic accident. With no regard for human life,” said Opa-locka Police Chief James Dobson.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).

At the Edge of a War, U.S. and Iran Appear to Step Back .
For all of the public chest-thumping in the last week, both sides took measures to de-escalate. Before Tuesday night, Iran made clear that it would launch retaliatory attacks, and that they would come from the official Iranian military, and not proxy groups. The United States, for its part, was monitoring Iranian communications and had plenty of time to prepare to protect American troops in Iraq. 1/61 SLIDES © IRIB HANDOUT/EPA-EFE/Shutterstock A handout screen-grab taken from a video released by Iranian state TV (IRIB) shows rockets launched from Iran against the US military base in Ain-al Asad in Iraq, on Jan.
