Alexis Mong, of the 2300 block of Catherine Street, is free on $5,000 unsecured bail after she was arraigned on two felony charges of endangering welfare of children – parent/guardian/other commits offense Tuesday.

She was charged after an investigation from a Childline tip on Dec. 10 that said she was neglecting dental care for her son, according to court documents. The tip said the child had “visibly black teeth” and was told by a dentist that he would require oral surgery.

West Manchester Township police discovered the teeth of a second son were in similar condition when they contacted York County Office of Children, Youth and Families.

One boy’s “top four teeth are deteriorated to the point that they barely present and the portions remaining are completely black,” charging documents state.

A dentist found the boys with 11 and 14 cavities, respectively. One boy needs nine crowns and two extractions and the other needs eight crowns, one filling and six extractions.

The boy - who has now been placed in long-term foster care - told police he had eaten 'some cookies' during the day, but had no other food. He disappeared off the local authority' s radar after moving house and failed to attend school for six months, as reported by Leicester Mercury.

When interviewed, Mong told police she knew the condition of her sons’ teeth, and confirmed that she signed the consent form for their treatment. But court documents said she never took the boys for treatment because never got it cleared by their heart doctor, a requirement since the boys both have a heart murmur.

She went on to tell police that she didn’t have the transportation needed to get the boys to Lancaster for their treatment.

Mong told police she bottled fed the boys until they were about two years old, and brushed their teeth twice a day.

There was no indication in the affidavit if the boys remain in Mong’s custody.
