DENTON (1080 KRLD) - A man with a history of violence is behind bars today charged with the murder of two Garland sisters who were shot and killed on the campus of Texas A&M Commerce.

21-year-old Jacques Smith is facing two capital murder charges, accused of gunning down his ex-girlfriend 20-year-old Abbaney Matts, along with her 19-year-old sister, Deja, the student at Texas A&M Commerce .

Smith is also accused of shooting Abbany's 2-year-old son. The toddler was shot in the foot. Officials say he is out of the hospital and will recover.

Just last week, Garland police said Smith was accused of assaulting Abbaney at a home where he pulled a knife before taking off. She called police and Smith was eventually found and arrested, an emergency protective order was then issued for Abbany.

Smith was freed after posting a $15,000 bond.

Smith is also a suspect in a Capital Murder case in Denton in connection with the death of Steven Daniels who was murdered on New Year's Eve. The other suspects in that case have been identified by Denton Police as Jalin Hargrove and Earnest Rogers.

Smith has a string of other charges dating back 4 years including evading arrest and aggravated robbery.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service helped D.C. Police to apprehend the suspect in a 2018 shooting in the Shaw neighborhood.On Tuesday, July 24, 2018, officers from the Third District responded to the report of the sound of gunshots in the 800 block of R Street, N.W. Officers found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported by D.C. Fire and EMS to a nearby hospital with life threatening injuries. Efforts to save his life failed and he was pronounced dead. The decedent was identified as Paul Williams Jr., 46, of Southeast.
