A former employee of the Princeton School District has been indicted on 12 charges stemming from the alleged sex assault of four different students, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said Thursday. In January, a 16-year-old student and friend of 19-year-old Bellaire High School senior Cesar Cortes brought a gun to school. Authorities say his friend was showing the gun off when Cortes was shot and killed. Cortes' death was the first death in 2020, but the fifth school shooting just two weeks into the new year.
Three days after that shooting, a student brought a gun to Sharpstown High School. On Monday, according to the charging documents, a student brought a handgun to Worthing High School. In a statement, HISD said the weapon was confiscated and no one was injured. The 18-year-old student was charged with felony possession.
ABC13 asked HISD if the gun found at Worthing High School was loaded or not. The district would not answer referring to what they call their 'policy.'
Bellaire High School shooting suspect to remain in jail
The 16-year-old accused in the fatal shooting of a classmate at Bellaire High School will remain detained in jail, a judge said Friday. KHOU 11's Janel Forte reported the shooting suspect appeared in a Houston courtroom along with his mother and his lawyer. They did not make a statement about the manslaughter case against the teenager whose name is not being released because he is a minor. New details emerged last week about the suspect, reported Jason Miles. The district attorney's office said they recovered the gun used in the shooting, which is said to be unintentional, because of the "direct result of the young man’s cooperation.
