The robberies happened between 8 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. Sunday. No arrests have been made, but police reviewed surveillance video and believe the same men committed both robberies, according to police reports.

The first happened about 8 p.m. at a Family Dollar on Detroit Avenue near West 73rd Street. Two masked robbers walked into the store, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money, police reports say.

One robber grabbed a customer at the register and forced him to the ground at gunpoint. The second robber pointed a gun at an employee’s back and threatened to shoot if the employee looked at him, police reports say.

The robbers stole money from three cash registers, four cartons of cigarettes and a box of Black and Mild cigars, police reports say.

A Family Dollar manager walked up to the front of the store during the robbery. The robbers forced her into a back office at gunpoint and ordered her to open a safe. The safe had a time-delayed lock, so the manager could not immediately open it. The robbers threatened to shoot the manager before they stole her cellphone and ran away, police reports say.

The second robbery happened about 9:15 p.m. at the Convenient Food Mart on Storer Avenue at West 47th Street. One robber walked in, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded cash. The other robber walked behind the register and pistol-whipped the employee in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground, police reports say.
