INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — After hiding for seven hours from officers, K-9 units and helicopters from four law enforcement agencies searching through woods off Interstate 95 Tuesday night, a deputy early Wednesday captured the man accused of stealing a truck in St. Augustine.

Dennis Keen, 31, listed as homeless, was arrested just before 12:30 a.m. Wednesday after a McDonald's employee waved down a deputy about "a guy looking into cars."

Keen was charged with grand theft auto, battery on a police dog, fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest without violence, leaving the scene of a crash, breaking a fence containing animals and driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to jail records.

While Keen's first escape attempt was successful, his second was thwarted by K-9 Deputy Jacob Curby who sent K-9 Bane into the woods after him. Bane found Keen "moments later" and clamped down on his left leg, officials said.

Keen later told deputies he took the truck from an empty parking lot in St. Augustine and drove south until Deputy Bobby Gage attempted to pull him over on I-95, the report stated.

Maj. Eric Flowers, Sheriff's Office spokesman, said Keen had out-of-state warrants for his arrest.

Keen was taken to a hospital and evaluated for the dog bite then jailed just before 5 a.m. Wednesday. His bond was set at $93,000.
