An attempted abduction was reported Sunday evening near the University of Minnesota campus.

At 6:05 p.m., an adult male approximately 40 years old, reportedly grabbed a female in the 700 block of 8th Street Southeast, which is west of Dinkytown. She fought him off and he fled on foot, according to Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder.

The University put out a safety notification shortly afterward.

The Minneapolis Police Department is working with the woman and other witnesses to further identify the suspect.

Elder said that the investigation is still ongoing to see if Sunday’s reported attempted abduction is connected with a Feb. 18 kidnapping attempt near Sixth Street and 10th Avenue Southeast.
