A West Des Moines day care provider faces charges after police say she struck a child in her care.

Jennifer Margret Simmons, 37, is charged with child endangerment.

Police say the incident happened January 8 at her home day care in the 1200 block of 24th Court in West Des Moines.

According to court documents, she struck a child in the face with an open hand while providing care for the child.

Simmons is being held in the Polk County Jail awaiting an initial court appearance.

Teen charged in Oshkosh West officer attack requests outside jury .
Grant Fuhrman, 17, is charged with Attempted 1st Degree Intentional Homicide in Winnebago County. Fuhrman appeared in court March 11 and his attorneys submitted a motion for a jury from another county.
