The number has been expected from state leaders and health officials who were anticipating a jump due to the increased availability of testing. It's also representative of the situation that's unfolding in the COVID-19 hot spot of New Orleans.

In New Orleans, 1,834 cases have been reported.

State health officials said Tuesday that 101 Louisianian's who died of COVID-19 lived in New Orleans.

Overall, 239 Louisianians have died.

Deaths were also reported for people who lived in Jefferson, Caddo, East Baton Rouge, St. Tammany and St. John the Baptist parishes.

It was only a couple weeks ago that coronavirus cases centered around the New Orleans metro. Now, the map of coronavirus cases in Louisiana is becoming increasingly more dotted.

Louisiana's state lab has completed more than 3,400 COVID-19 tests while more than 35,000 commercial tests have been completed since the outbreak began.
