  Suspect in custody after firing at Clayton County officer A person is in custody after he fired his gun at a Clayton County officer, authorities said. It happened shortly after 1 a.m. on North Main Street in Jonesboro. Authorities said an officer responded to an armed person's call. When the officer made contact with a person matching the suspect's description, the suspect pulled out a weapon and shot at the officer. The officer exchanged gunfire with the suspect, police said. The suspect ran away and the responding officer, along with other officers, followed. The suspect was eventually taken into custody without further incident. Officials said they found a face mask and gloves.

Update from Greenville County Sheriff's Office:

"Tony Merritt, who was wanted in the March 21st killing of Twana McDaniel has been arrested in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania following a police chase. Merritt will eventually be extradited back to Greenville to face his murder charge."

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office are asking for information regarding the whereabouts of Tony Merritt, 39, who is wanted for the March 21 murder of Twana McDaniel.

  Sheriff: Girl, 4, found in woods; had been missing 2 days Searchers on Friday found a 4-year-old girl who had been missing for two days in a wooded area in east Alabama. The girl was in good condition with a dog at her side when rescuers approached, authorities said.

Investigators said McDaniel was found shot to death in her backyard on First Street in the Woodside Community.

She had been shot in the torso, investigators said.

Authorities said Merritt is considered armed and dangerous.

They are asking anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to call Crime Stoppers of Greenville at 23-CRIME.

The find was reported to deputies Monday, April 6, on Weyerhaeuser property in the 41000 block of Upper Calapooia Drive, according to the Linn County Sheriff's office. The remains were found about a mile from Upper Calapooia Drive and required Weyerhaeuser to clear the an overgrown road for search teams to access the area.
