NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a man after a pregnant woman and her boyfriend were fatally shot inside their home in Staten Island on Monday afternoon.

Just after 5 p.m., officials responded to a call for shots fired inside a home at 376 Grandview Ave., where they discovered three individuals who were shot.

Alafia Rodriguez, 46, and his girlfriend Ana DeSousa, 33, were found dead inside of the home, police said.

Police also found a third victim, an unidentified 43-year-old woman in the living room with a gunshot wound to the back,

Officials also found Philip Moreno, 45, near the residence, attempting to leave, NYPD Assistant Chief Kenneth Corey said during a preliminary briefing.

He has a court appearance scheduled for Wednesday morning and will be returned to North Carolina soon, the outlet said. Legal representation for Sluss could not be immediately identified by PEOPLE.

Moreno, police said was in possession of a semi-automatic gun and was immediately taken into custody.

An uninjured 2-year-old, believed to be the couple's child, was also found in the house.

EMS transported the child and the 43-year-old victim to Richmond University Medical Center.

The woman was taken into surgery and officials say she remains in critical condition.

Corey also noted that Moreno has several other gun-related convictions and also told reporters that drugs were found at the scene.

"I can tell you that I observed narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia," he said.

A silencer was recovered at the scene, Corey added.

Charges against Moreno were pending early Tuesday morning.

Detectives are working to determine whether the home invasion was drug-related, the Staten Island Advance reports.
