SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Federal agents in Florida have arrested a man charged in a shooting outside a Texas bar last week that injured eight people, police said Thursday. U.S. Marshals arrested 37-year-old Jenelius Crew Thursday morning as he left a hotel in Miami, San Antonio police said in a statement. Detectives obtained warrants for his arrest Wednesday on eight counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said. A West Wareham man faces charges of assault to murder after firing on police officers with a rifle while they were investigating a tresspassing complaint, police said.
Gregory W. Schroth, 40, of West Wareham is being held on $50,000 bail ahead of an arraignment Monday in Wareham District Court for the incident . Police reported there were no injuries.
Wareham police officers Aaron Pacheco and Christopher Corner responded to a report of a male trespasser at 1:35 p.m. Friday. While seeking the man, they heard three gunshots believed to be directed at them, police said in a statement.
Police arrest suspect in Lancaster shooting
An 18-year-old Lancaster man charged with aggravated assault and other offenses stemming from a June 8 shooting in the city was taken into custody Sunday, according to East Lampeter Township Police. Brandon Hill is accused of shooting a 17-year-old man in the foot during an incident on the 700 block of S. Marshall Street on June 8, police say. He was turned over the the Lancaster Bureau of Police before being arraigned and committed to Lancaster County Prison on $500,000 bail. Polcie say the shooting occurred around 5:17 p.m.
The officers headed in the direction of the gunshots and came upon Schroth on Reed Road carrying a rifle, and demanded he drop the rifle as he walked away toward a camper.
The officers moved toward the male with guns drawn and Schroth placed the rifle in his camper before being detained, police said. Responding officers found a 500-round box of .22 caliber rifle ammunition in the area.
“We had a very serious situation where two civilians and two police officers were in grave danger,” said Wareham Police Chief John Walcek in a statement. “The positive outcome of this incident is the result of a disciplined and professional response by two of Wareham’s finest officers.”
Schroth is charged with four counts of assault with intent to murder and various firearms charges.
Woman who allegedly coughed on baby loses job .
A woman who police said deliberately coughed on another woman and her baby at a yogurt store in California has lost her job. The Oak Grove School District said in a statement over the weekend that the woman alleged to have engaged in the conduct is no longer an employee of the district. It did not name the former employee."The Oak Grove School District's highest priority is the safety of our students and the well-being of all of the children in the community we serve," the district said. "We do not tolerate conduct from any employee that compromises any child's safety.
