Something about this crime stinks.

A California man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing a truck carrying two porta-potties, according to police.

The owner of the truck reported its theft to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning and told them that he had located it through the onboard GPS tracker.

Deputies tracked down the mobile latrine, but the driver fled, according to police.

Within two minutes, he crossed a set of railroad tracks, drove over a bridge and then dumped the car, continuing to flee by foot.

Deputies, having recognized the suspect from a May arrest, circled back to his home, where they met him.

Francisco Melendez, a 33-year-old man who the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified as “one of Fresno County’s most prolific auto thieves,” surrendered peacefully.

Melendez has been charged with auto theft, receiving stolen property, evading police, obstructing a police officer and committing a felony while on bond, according to online jail records.

Prosecutors say Nikola founder Trevor Milton's misleading statements targeted retail investors. In a nearly 50-page indictment, prosecutors accused Milton of preying on vulnerable retail investors who had turned to trading after losing income due to the pandemic. In some cases, these victims lost their retirement savings, authorities said, as they outlined his web of false promises related to an electric truck that was never operable.
