The boyfriend of a woman who was found beheaded on a Minnesota sidewalk has been arrested in connection with the gruesome slaying.
Authorities on Thursday were responding to reports of stabbing in Shakopee when they discovered the decapitated body of America Thayer, lying on the ground behind a car,. The victim’s head was nearby and a large knife was also recovered at the scene.
Alexis Saborit was arrested a short time later and jailed on a count of second-degree murder in connection to Thayer’s death. He remained behind bars Friday at Scott County Jail.

When Phillip Daniel Mills heard that his mother had survived the alleged murder attempt, he expressed shock, a police affidavit reportedly stated.The man, 40-year-old Phillip Daniel Mills, has an extensive criminal record. His previous convictions include criminal trespassing and evading arrest, according to the local news outlet KTSM.
“At this time, investigators believe the suspect knew the victim and this wasn’t a random act,” Shakopee police stated.
Friends told FOX9, 55-year-old Thayer, who worked at the Dollar Tree and MyPillow, had been in a long-term relationship with the suspect and domestic abuse had been an ongoing problem.
According to court records, 42-year-old Saborit was previously convicted of gross misdemeanor domestic assault.
One of Thayer’s long time friends, Nicky Kendrick, described her as “soft spoken, so funny and always had amazing stories.” She was also a Cuban immigrant, who friends described as kind and hardworking.
“She was just truly the kindest to everyone. I haven’t met anyone as genuinely kind as America was since my late grandma,” Kendrick told SW News Media. “I’m devastated, it’s unreal and I just have no words.”
The Shakopee police continued to investigate Thayer’s death on Friday with assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
