Prominent attorney shot months after murders of wife and son
More than two months after his wife and son were found murdered, prominent South Carolina attorney Alex Murdaugh was shot on the side of the road, police said. Alex Murdaugh, 53, called 911 Saturday afternoon to report being shot near Varnville, South Carolina, in Hampton County, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED). Murdaugh said he was changing a tire when a car passed him, turned around and then someone in the car shot him, a family spokesperson told ABC News.

The scion of a powerful South Carolina legal dynasty, Murdaugh reported he had been shot in the head on a backroad en route to Charleston two weeks ago.
Murdaugh’s wife and son were shot and killed near the dog kennels of the family’s sprawling hunting estate in June.
Murdaugh himself announced after the alleged attack two weeks ago that he would enter rehab for drug addiction, which prompted the century-old law firm founded by his great-grandfather to announce that he was under investigation for misappropriating millions in company funds.
Murdaugh said he resigned, while the firm, Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth, Detrick, said he was forced out.
