Parkland shooter's prosecutor had bloody facts on his side

Parkland shooter's prosecutor had bloody facts on his side FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The prosecutor seeking to sentence Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz to death let the facts speak for themselves as he presented his case: terrifying witness accounts; heartrending statements from parents and spouses; chilling surveillance videos; gruesome autopsy and crime scene photos; and, as a capstone, Thursday’s jury walk-through of the three-story building where it happened, bloodstains and Valentine’s Day cards still clinging to the floors.

OnlyFans and Instagram model Courtney Clenney was arrested on Tuesday for the murder of Christian Obumseli, her boyfriend of over two years, who was fatally stabbed on April 3.

The 26-year-old Florida model, who on the day of Obumseli's death called 911 to report that her boyfriend had been stabbed during a violent fight between the two, has now been charged with second-degree murder, despite police at the time ruling the incident self-defense.

The arrest and the charge "completely shocked" Clenney's defense lawyer Frank Prieto, who told the Miami Herald that he looked forward to "clearing her name in court."

Driver in LA crash that killed 5 charged with murder

Driver in LA crash that killed 5 charged with murder LOS ANGELES (AP) — The driver suspected of causing a fiery crash that killed five people and an 8 1/2-month-old fetus was charged Monday with murder. Nicole Lorraine Linton was charged with six counts of murder and five counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office. She could face 90 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges. Linton, a 37-year-old traveling nurse from Houston, Texas, made her first court appearance Monday after being released from a hospital over the weekend. Linton, who appeared in a wheelchair, didn't enter a plea and her arraignment was continued to October.

According to the Miami-Dade County's arrest warrant shared with Newsweek, the initial conclusions reached by police were later reviewed after investigators received the medical examiner's findings, which concluded that Obumseli, a 27-year-old cryptocurrency investor, had died of a knife wound that punctured the subclavian artery in the right side of his chest.

The Miami Police Department (MPD) then "presented and consulted with the State Attorney's Office regarding the initial facts" and launched "various investigative steps," including "several warrants and subpoenas" to gather more information on Clenney and Obumseli.

The MPD said it also received information from out-of-state law enforcement agencies, but does not specify which ones or detail what information was obtained.

The evidence—including video and recorded statements, 911 calls, records, and cellphone extraction data—led investigators to conclude that Clenney and Obumseli had been in "a tempestuous relationship since November of 2020, with multiple incidents of domestic violence from both sides over the period of their relationship."

Footage from a surveillance camera at One Paraiso, Miami—the building where Clenney and Obumseli had lived since January—filmed a little over a month before the death of Obumseli, shows the couple violently fighting inside an elevator.

"While certainly not one sided, the evidence shows there were prior incidents of the Defendant [Clenney] being physically violent with the Victim [Obumseli]," reads the arrest warrant against the OnlyFans model.

Social media model arrested in Hawaii on murder charge

Social media model arrested in Hawaii on murder charge HILO, Hawaii (AP) — Law enforcement in Hawaii on Wednesday arrested social media model Courtney Clenney on a charge of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Hawaii County police said in a statement they assisted the U.S. Marshals Service as they arrested the 26-year-old in Laupahoehoe, which is on the Big Island. Officers used an arrest warrant issued by Miami-Dade County, Florida. She's being held at the East Hawaii Detention Center while she waits for her initial court appearance in Hilo District Court on Thursday, police said.

According to the Miami-Dade State Attorney, Clenney was arrested in Las Vegas for domestic battery on Obumseli in a hotel in July 2021.

According to investigators, "the tumult" in the relationship between Clenney and Obumseli led the two to split up several times, including during the last week of March, when she expelled her boyfriend from their apartment.

The two rekindled their relationship on April 1, according to the MPD, two days before Obumseli's death.

"Arguments began almost immediately, with police responding and contacting the Defendant [Clenney] who appeared intoxicated when she made the report on the evening of April 1, 2022," reads the arrest warrant.

What Happened On April 3?

The MPD reconstructed the timeline of April 3, the day of the murder, to find that the day had begun "peacefully," with Clenney and Obumseli playing with their dogs inside the apartment.

Then, at 1:15 p.m., Obumseli went out with the dogs while Clenney stayed home and did a live on Instagram. At 4:32 p.m. Obumseli returned with Subway sandwiches.

Courtney Clenney's Lawyer 'Shocked' at OnlyFans Model's Arrest

Courtney Clenney's Lawyer 'Shocked' at OnlyFans Model's Arrest The stabbing of the model's 27-year-old cryptocurrency investor boyfriend had been initially ruled as self-defense.The 25-year-old Florida model, who was known online as Courtney Taylor, was taken into custody on Wednesday in Hawaii, where she was in rehabilitation for substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder, according to the Miami Herald.

It's unclear how the situation escalated into a deadly fight from there. A timeline of Clenney's calls have allowed investigators to establish that the stabbing must have taken place between 4:43 p.m.—when the model called her mother for the first time— and 4:57 p.m., when she called 911.

Exactly 11 minutes before Clenney called 911 to report her boyfriend was "dying," as she can be heard saying on the recorded phone call, a neighbor also called 911 to report a disturbance at their apartment.

In her recorded telephone statement to police on the day of the killing, Clenney's mother said she heard the model yelling at Obumseli to leave the apartment and accusing him of "lying," but she refuted the idea that she was discussing the fight between Clenney and her boyfriend with her daughter.

Investigators, on the other hand, said they saw a text message from "Mom" on Clenney's phone received at 5:25 p.m. on April 3 that mentioned self-defense and advised her not to say anything to investigators without an attorney.

Clenney's version of the incident given to police officers was also "inconsistent" with the findings of the medical examiner, according to the MPD.

Why Has She Only Been Arrested Now?

Clenney was initially sent home after providing a recorded statement, pending investigation.

OnlyFans Model Stabbed Boyfriend in Heart in Miami Condo, Authorities Say

OnlyFans Model Stabbed Boyfriend in Heart in Miami Condo, Authorities Say The OnlyFans model charged with murdering her boyfriend in their luxury Miami high-rise in April fatally stabbed him in the heart during a violent domestic dispute, authorities said Thursday. Courtney Clenney, a 26-year-old Instagram influencer, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the April 3 death of 27-year-old Christian Obumseli. The charges came after Clenney and her attorney repeatedly claimed that she acted out of self-defense that day at the One Pariso luxury building.

In the four months between the incident and the model's arrest, while Clenney's lawyer repeatedly asserted that the woman stabbed Obumseli in self-defense, the man's family vocally opposed the idea, saying Clenney received preferential treatment because she was a white woman and he was a Black man.

But on August 9, Clenney was arrested in Hawaii, where she was recovering from substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder, according to the Miami Herald.

According to her arrest warrant, the MPD and Miami-Dade State Attorney concluded that Clenney and Obumseli "were in a violent and toxic domestic relationship for over two years" which often escalated into the woman "throwing and/or using weapons on various occasions."

"These incidents culminated on April 3, 2022 with the Defendant acting without justification and causing the death of the Victim by stabbing the Victim, in an imminently dangerous act demonstrating a depraved mind without regard for human life," the MPD and Miami-Dade State Attorney concluded.

Clenney's defense lawyer has complained that the arrest warrant "contains deceptive and incomplete statements," adding that "it is a shame that the State Attorney's Office is seeking to win this case in the court of public opinion by showing an irrelevant and likely inadmissible video of Courtney in an elevator getting physical with Obumseli."

"The video does not depict the events leading up to what was captured in the elevator. Obumseli was the abuser, the worst kind of abuser," Prieto told Newsweek.

"He would manipulate and abuse Courtney in private when he thought nobody was around. Do not forget that the initial investigation from the City of Miami Police Department uncovered an independent witness who saw Obumseli hitting Courtney in the head while he thought he was in the privacy of Courtney's apartment," he added.

Prieto maintains that Clenney stabbed Obumseli in self-defense.

"We are confident she will be exonerated, and Courtney will be seen for what she is: a victim of domestic abuse that survived her abuser."

Jurors see Florida school shooter's violent internet posts .
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Jurors in the penalty trial of Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz saw evidence Wednesday of his growing obsession to commit a massacre, seeing internet posts and searches about mass killings in the months before he murdered 17 people at Parkland’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. In an emotionless monotone, Broward County sheriff’s Detective Nick Masters read hundreds of searches and comments Cruz made starting seven months before the Feb. 14, 2018, massacre as prosecutors try to prove he planned it.
