Aug. 18—CHESTER TOWNSHIP — A 21-year-old Chester man is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and possession of an instrument of crime after he fatally shot an 18-year-old in the face Wednesday night, according to police.
Shaakir Alim Germany, of the 200 block of West 23rd Street, claimed the gun went off accidentally as he pulled it from a backpack, according to an affidavit of probable cause for his arrest written by Detective Patrick Mullen.
Officers responded to a house on the 3900 block of Gideon Road at about 10:09 p.m. for a report of a shooting and encountered Germany and another male outside the residence. They pointed officers in the direction of the victim inside a room on the first floor, the affidavit says. Germany appeared to be on the phone with dispatch.
Man City's Mendy labeled 'predator' as rape trial starts
CHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was described by prosecutors as a “predator” who could not take no for an answer as the trial began Monday of the French soccer player accused of eight counts of rape. Officers found the victim, William Evans, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face, according to the affidavit. Medical personnel pronounced Evans dead at about 10:14 p.m. His death was ruled a homicide.
Mullen and Detective Sgt. Merritt Harman investigated the crime scene and located an AR-15 style rifle inside the room along with a single fired cartridge casing, the affidavit says. The rifle was loaded with one round in the chamber and approximately 30 rounds in the magazine, according to police.
"It was an accident, I pulled it out of the bag and it went off, and hit him in the head," Germany allegedly told police. "I did not have my finger on the trigger."
Investigators also interviewed several witnesses who stated that Germany brought the gun into the room inside a backpack about a half hour before the shooting, according to the affidavit. Germany said, "It was an accident!" multiple times after the shooting, according to the affidavit.
Germany is being held at the Delaware County prison without bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 1 before Magisterial District Judge Georgia L. Stone. No defense attorney is listed on electronic court documents.

2 brothers, cousin charged in murder of 73-year-old man in Phoenixville .
Aug. 25—WEST CHESTER — Members of a multi-county family who allegedly killed a Phoenixville man just before New Year's Eve two years ago in an apparent robbery that left the victim in a pool of blood in his home have been charged with his murder, Chester County authorities announced. The District Attorney's Office and Phoenixville Police announced the arrest of Raheem Pinder, Dayon Pinder, and Nathaniel Pinder for the murder of 73-year-old Ira Solomon in December 2020. The three defendants — two brothers and a cousin — have been charged with murder, robbery, burglary, conspiracy, and related offenses.
