Pompeii (M6) 5 good reasons to watch the peplum with Kit Harington
In 2014, WS Anderson reconstructs the tragedy of Pompeii, a Roman city razed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 and signs a volcanic peplum with Kit Harington alias Jon Snow of Game of Thrones, who plays here a hot-blooded gladiator.

1- A childhood passion
At age 10, Paul William Scott Anderson discovers a book that tells the incredible drama of Pompeii, devastated by a volcanic eruption in the year 79. The images of the inhabitants frozen by the ashes and the wash the fascinate. In addition, the kid loves Antiquity: "The history of the Roman Empire captivates me because I was born in the north of England, a region of archaeological sites that I visited with my father." "Once the work closed, he swears to make a film one day. His vocation as a director was born.
2- The Maximus
model In 2000, Paul Anderson has a second revelation by discovering Gladiator , Ridley Scott, English director, like him he admires deeply. "This masterpiece has turned my life upside down!" The irresistible rise of Maximus (Russell Crowe) in the arena will inspire the scenario of Pompeii: as the hero of Gladiator, Milo is a gladiator seeking revenge on the powerful. And, like Maximus, seconded by the Nubian slave Juba (Djimon Hounsou), Milo is allied with an African athlete named Atticus (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). Thanks, Ridley Scott ...
3- A bankable hero
To embody Milo, the hot-blooded Celtic gladiator, the director thinks of Kit Harington, the taciturn Jon Snow of Game of Thrones . A wise choice, knowing that the series is seen by millions of viewers. Anderson Commentary: "We had a bankable actor, whose face is familiar all over the world, not to mention his very physical presence and his natural charisma ..."

4- A perfect torso
"You do not have to be content with being handsome, you have to become a real warrior, with an impressive musculature" , the director drops to Kit Harington. Two months before the shooting, the star comedian is entrusted to Nuno De Salles, a global player in sports coaching. On the program: dumbbells, 20-km daily jogging, push-ups, bodybuilding and fat-free diet, tea-based. Then the actor passes into the hands of the famous stunt leader Jean Frenette, who choreographed the clashes of the film 300. He teaches him the Greek fight, sword fighting with wrought iron weapons. This training pays: in the image, Kit exhibits an athlete's torso with, as abs, tablets that thrill the audience ...
5- A neat reconstitution
To achieve the sets, reconstructed and filmed in 3D in Toronto studios, Anderson left nothing to chance. He spent two weeks on the site, near Naples, to take 35,000 photos. Thanks to these images, he was able to restore the real Pompeii: " With its taverns, brothels and shops ... It was a city of opulence and pleasure, a kind of Las Vegas of the Roman Empire." He deployed the same rigor for the final scene of the disaster: "Everything seems true on the screen Do not forget that the explosion of this volcano had the destructive power of several atomic bombs and this resulted in a tsunami which has engulfed the city ... "
Pompeii is broadcast Tuesday, July 23 at 9:05 pm on M6.
