Hugh Laurie-Led Sci-Fi Comedy From Veep Creator Snags HBO Series Order HBO’s Hugh Laurie-captained space satire Avenue 5 is ready for launch. The cabler has handed a series order to the futuristic sci-fi comedy, which hails from Veep creator Armando Iannucci and also stars Silicon Valley‘s Zach Woods and The Comedians‘ Josh Gad. Per the series’ logline, Avenue 5 is a “space tourism comedy set 40 years in the future when the solar system is everyone’s oyster. With Hugh Laurie as the Captain, nothing can go wrong?” Laurie, who worked with Iannuci on Veep, stars as Ryan Clark, the “suave, outwardly confident, controlled and personable” captain of space cruise ship Avenue 5.

CBS All Access has finally given a name to its upcoming "Star Trek" series with Patrick Stewart: "Star Trek: Picard."

The name was announced, with a logo (which you can below), during CBS' upfront presentation on Wednesday.

The show will see Stewart reprise his role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on "Star Trek: Next Generation." Picard will be the central character in the new sci-fi series and follow him through the next chapter of his life.

CBS is keeping quiet about character and plot details, only sharing that the new, untitled series will see Stewart reprise his role as the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" captain in "the next chapter of his life." During the Television Critics Association Press Tour earlier this year, co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman teased a Picard that may look quite different for fans of the series.

The new CG-animated series will follow a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation. As Variety previously reported, the series hails from Kevin and Dan Hageman, the pair behind “Trollhunters” and “Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu,” as well as Eye Animation Productions (CBS’ new animation arm), Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers. Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) will serve as co-executive producer, and Kirsten Beyer will serve as supervising producer.

No premiere date has been announced, but the show is slated to debut at the end of 2019.
