The actress, 40, and members of her family are being sued for allegedly discriminating against a transgender man, as well as alleged assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress and trespass among other claims, according to filed court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Reps and an attorney for the actress did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Deidre Finley, who prefers to go by Dedrek Finley, says in the documents that he was hired by Dawson to move from New York City to Los Angeles to work on renovating her home as a handyman. Finley was offered a place to live, free of rent, at Dawson’s mother’s former home in North Hollywood, he states.

Pittsburgh police said they have warrants for the arrest of a woman suspected of trying to set fire to Pizza Milano on Fifth Avenue uptown and Cafe Milano on 6th Street downtown. Police identified the suspect as Nicole Jo Dawson, 36, and said there is video footage showing the alleged arson attempts from Tuesday. Police said the restaurants were occupied during both incidents. Sign up for our Newsletters Dawson was involved in protests outside Pizza Milano last year, after video of an altercation involving a manager and a woman went viral. Dawson and others protested outside the restaurant, believing the incident was racially motivated.
Instead of paying rent, Finley says he agreed to work for Dawson at $25 an hour for the home repairs and cover his own utilities.
However, Finley claimed the atmosphere changed “immediately after” he came out to the Dawson family as a transgender man, according to the lawsuit.
He claims they “misgendered him multiple times each day, with deliberate indifference as to the appropriate way to address” him.
Finley alleges Dawson’s step-father, Gregory, would “scream in Mr. Finley’s face that ‘you’re not a man,’ ‘a man wouldn’t work like this,’ and ‘you only think you’re a man.’”
He claims Dawson was aware of the incidents after he brought them to her attention, but “refused to act to end the abuse,” allegedly telling Finley, “You’re a grown woman.”

Finley alleges that in February of 2018, about two months after he had come out, he was ordered by the family via text message to move out of Isabel’s former apartment.
When he did not move out, Finley claims Dawson and her mother Isabel arrived outside of the apartment in April 2018 where Isabel allegedly dragged him out of the window of his bedroom and to the ground.
“Once Mr. Finley was lying helpless on the ground outside, Isabel, who is substantially larger than Mr. Finley, got on top of Mr. Finley’s body and began punching him,” the court documents allege. “While beating Mr. Finley, Isabel screamed, ‘You’re not so much of a fan now,’ which was a clear and denigrating reference to Mr. Finley’s gender identity.”
Finley also claims Dawson helped her mother and “sat down on top of Mr. Finley, actively restraining him while he was on the ground to ensure that her mother could continue battering.”
Hazing probe leads to indictment of fraternity members
An investigation into alleged hazing by a fraternity at Miami University in Ohio has led to misdemeanor charges of hazing and assault against more than a dozen fraternity members. A student reported in March that members of the Delta Tau Delta chapter at the university in Oxford hazed him during initiation.The student said he was beaten with a spiked paddle, kicked and forced to drink lots of alcohol.The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reports Oxford police confirmed that a Butler County grand jury’s recent indictments of the 18 men stemmed from an investigation into hazing.
He claims Isabel and Rosario “stomped” on his hand and took his cell phone so he would not be able to call 911. Finley alleges his phone also contained video of previous threats by Isabel against him.
A day following the alleged attack, Finley was granted a temporary restraining order against Isabel after she attempted to move out his belongings, according to the lawsuit.
Finley is seeking damages and trial by jury.

She approached for explanations and that's when she was hit, she was humiliated. " "The group of men sings in Arabic," says Lyes Alouane. "The lyrics of this song mean 'You're a treat', 'here's the cake or the candy, the chocolate', which reduces it to a sexual object."The mayor of the 10th seized the police
The video ends with the intervention of several security officers of the RATP, the aggression taking place at the exit of a metro station. RATP confirms to franceinfo that its agents intervened "to assist and shelter the victim in the station".
SOS Homophobia explains having received the video of this aggression in the night from Monday to Tuesday. It was shot by a person who participated in the event, and who wanted to "denounce the facts". "She finds it scandalous," reports Lyes Alouane. In contrast, the victim did not report to SOS Homophobia.
Tuesday, several political figures reacted to this video, including the mayor of the 10th arrondissement of Paris, Alexandra Cordebard, who explained to have "reported the facts" to the police:
"Very shocked by this aggression #transphobe place of the Republic , I give my full support to the victim.I reported the facts to the police station # Paris10: the attackers must be prosecuted. "
Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and Secretary of State Marlene Schiappa also condemned this aggression:
"Indignant by this transphobic aggression, which I condemn with the utmost firmness, I wish to assure the victim of all my support.The guilty of this intolerable act must be identified and persecuted."
