Is there really a ‘science of reading’ that tells us exactly how to teach kids to read?

Is there really a ‘science of reading’ that tells us exactly how to teach kids to read? Is teaching reading really a one-size-fits-all endeavor? Thus began the fight over teaching phonics or “whole language” — and more recently what is known as “balanced literacy.” We’ve also been hearing declarations that a “science of reading” proves that employing phonics in a particular war is the best and right path to teach young children how to read.

A Few Good Men , which was Sorkin ' s professional debut, premiered on Broadway in 1989 at the Music Box Theatre to critical acclaim. Three years later, the play was adapted into a feature film that went on to receive an Oscar nomination for best picture. "I am thrilled that Aaron Sorkin is coming back to NBC to adapt and produce a live broadcast of his electrifying play ' A Few Good Men ,' which seems as timely as ever today," Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC Entertainment, said Wednesday in a statement.

Some of you won't appreciate that, but trust me, in regard to writing, it' s brilliant. If you liked any of the things I mention above (or his other films, "An American President" and "Charile Wilson' s War" to nbame just a few ) then buy this script; and buy the Samuel French version so that you see exactly what the original cast and staff were working from.

Complete NBA All-Star starter voting, from LeBron James to Nate Hinton .
LeBron James led the NBA in All-Star starter voting by fans (5,922,554), fellow players (214) and media (100). But despite winning the overall fan vote for the fifth straight year, something he previously said drove him him to compete hard in All-Star games, LeBron is not enthused about going to Atlanta for this year’s event. Nate Hinton received no player or media All-Star votes and just 238 fan votes, the fewest in the NBA. But he’s not far removed from just being happy to hear his name called on draft night. Not as an actual selection. But by the Mavericks, who called to sign him as undrafted free agent.
