The show, on the whole, is widely considered a massive success, earning 59 Emmy Awards, the most of any show, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019, though the final season was quite divisive among fans.

'Game of Thrones' fans shouldn't give up hope that George R.R. Martin is making progress on his long-promised book series
"The Winds of Winter" has been in the works for 10 years, but Martin himself said he's made a lot of progress in 2020 alone. Don't give up on him yet.But I'm here, at risk of outing myself as a "sweet summer child," to argue that we have no tangible reason to believe Martin won't one day finish his epic series.
While many fans praised the show within the extensive comments section, many others expressed their displeasure with the final season, many of whom had loved the show before the final six episodes.
'HBO embarrassing themselves by even posting this,' said commenter Jes Checo on the YouTube page.
MikeDug84 added, 'I can't even bring myself to re-watch the entire show because of how badly it ended. Which is a shame because the first four seasons are absolutely ace.'
Most fans didn't mention any specifics in why they didn't like the show's ending, though the comments section was more negative than positive.
John Calipari sends warning to Kentucky critics after poor season
The Wildcats went a disastrous 9-16 in 2020-21, missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013. That is not good enough in Lexington, and Calipari knows it. We wonder if Calipari had anyone specific in mind when he issued his warning. We can certainly think of one person it might apply to.Subscribe to Yardbarker's Morning Bark, the most comprehensive newsletter in sports. Another commenter, FUHRER, added the show is like, 'the toxic ex who reminds you about themselves once a year and you start to catch feelings again, forgetting how bad your relationship ended.'
CineVore added, 'It's crazy how popular this show was back then, and how quickly everyone has forget it. Probably the most disappointing thing in entertainment history.'
GodOfVamps wondered if the trailer was a signal the network was 'remaking' the final season, a movement that has picked up steam since HBO's parent company WarnerMedia released Zack Snyder's Justice League due to fan demand.
While there is no indication HBO would ever actually remake the final season of Game of Thrones, lays out one possibility.
HBO Releases New ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 Trailer and Fans Have Feelings
For the 10th anniversary of the fantasy hit, HBO revisited the eighth season with an updated trailer and fans are feeling trolled. The trailer is a well-edited clip that refreshes fans on the dramatic highlights and lavish spectacle of the final six episodes of the Emmy-winning series — yet is also stirring up all sorts of feelings among fans who felt the last season was a massive disappointment.
Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin has still not finished the final two books in his novel series, which are said to have much different endings for many of the characters.
It's possible that HBO could be tempted to do something with the books, since they do own the rights to the entire book series, though there is no indication the network has any plans of doing so.
Given how strong the negative reactions are for the final season, and how WarnerMedia already set a precedent in bowing to fan demand for Zack Snyder's Justice League, anything is possible.
Another fan, WayNotTruth, added, 'The pure arrogance of HBO + Dan + Dave that they could end the show like this and there wouldn't be a massive backlash. This is on par with the worst business decisions ever made.
Anna Gump added, 'I'll never forget anxiously awaiting the final season, being absolutely disappointed, and then watching the vid of the final table reading and realizing that all of the actors were just as disappointed as we were, if not moreso.'
