  Actor Ed Asner, TV's blustery Lou Grant, dies at 91 LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ed Asner, the burly and prolific character actor who became a star in middle age as the gruff but lovable newsman Lou Grant, first in the hit comedy “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and later in the drama “Lou Grant,” died Sunday. He was 91. Asner's representative confirmed the actor's death in an email to The Associated Press. Asner's official Twitter account included a note from his children: “We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards are set to be unveiled on Sunday night.

Topping the drama nominees are Netflix’s The Crown and Disney+’sThe Mandalorianwith 24 nominations each. Meanwhile, among comedies, Disney+’s WandaVision nabbed 23 noms and Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso roped in 20 noms.

HBO and HBO Max together represent 130 nominations, while Netflix is close behind with 129 and Disney+ sits at 71 noms. Among broadcast networks, NBC boasts 46, while CBS has 26 and ABC has 23.

The honors, to be held in downtown Los Angeles outdoors at L.A. Live entertainment complex, will be broadcast in a live telecast starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PST. It will air on CBS and will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. Cedric the Entertainer will host.

  'SNL' hosts Rudolph, Chappelle win guest actor Emmy honors LOS ANGELES (AP) — Claire Foy, Courtney B. Vance, Maya Rudolph and Dave Chappelle won guest actor Emmys at Sunday's creative arts awards ceremony. On the drama series side, Foy was honored for “The Crown" and her reprisal of Queen Elizabeth II, the role that won her a lead actress Emmy in 2018. Vance won for his role in “Lovecraft Country," which was canceled after one season. Rudolph and Chappelle won comedy series guest acting trophies as hosts of “Saturday Night Live.” For Rudolph, it was a repeat of her victory in the category last year, also for “SNL.”In the short-form comedy or drama series, the winners were J.B.
