Has Tom Brady simply had enough of Bill Belichick?

Has Tom Brady simply had enough of Bill Belichick? When Seth Wickersham of ESPN reported back in January that serious cracks had developed in the perennially successful relationship between Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft, it seemed odd to think that something that had worked so well for 18 years would suddenly not be working. But something’s [ more ]Load Error

It is the first time Brady has taken part in the club’s offseason program this year — it is mandatory, after all — as he decided not to attend previous voluntary workouts. Coach Bill Belichick said before Tuesday’s session that all players had reported. When asked if it was good to have his starting quarterback back in the mix, Belichick said it was good to have all players in attendance.

Belichick said Sunday that Butler’s benching wasn’t a disciplinary decision but rather a matter of putting That fueled talk that Belichick might perhaps be stepping aside, with McDaniels (and Brady ) winning a power struggle. “You need good players on the field to execute. Bill says it all the time.

Belichick also was asked if he thought he was “in a good place right now” with Brady.

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Tom,” Belichick said.

Belichick declined to speculate on the state of mind for Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski, who also opted out of this offseason’s voluntary workouts but was present Tuesday. Belichick was asked if he thought the two players were dedicated to the team and were “all in.”

“Yeah, you’d have to ask them that question. They’ve always been that way ever since they’ve been on our team,” Belichick said.

Gronkowski was among the last players to take the field Tuesday.

Watch Gronkowski go through drills:

Last month at the NFL owners meetings, Robert Kraft said he had been in communication with Brady and that the three-time MVP was “very excited about minicamp.”

In April, Kraft said Gronkowski’s absence from voluntary workouts was “not even an issue for me.”

‘No-fun Patriots’ seem to be lightening up, perhaps to appease their disgruntled stars .
Lane Johnson would be shocked to learn what the Patriots did this week as they wrapped up nine weeks of offseason workouts. On Monday, Bill Belichick canceled practice and instead held a team bonding experience at Fenway Park. On Tuesday, the Patriots returned to practice, but Belichick turned it into an opportunity to teach his players about football history, using props including leather helmets, I’m told.
