There are some people in this world who have an extraordinary ability to look outside themselves and reach others, even in the most extreme of circumstances. High school student-athlete Ty Koehn certainly is one of them.

Koehn recently helped Mounds View High School reach the Minnesota State Championship. He sealed the clinching victory over Totino-Grace by striking out Jack Kocon, who just so happens to be a childhood friend.

Obviously, after that final out, Koehn’s entire team charged the field to celebrate in a big pile, like baseball players do. Only, instead of joining his teammates, Koehn went straight to the batter’s box to console his friend.

After the game, Koehn opened up about his motivation for showing favor to his friend, who was crushed, rather than celebrating with his teammates.

“We are very close friends,” Koehn told Bring Me The News. “I knew him from all the way back when we were 13. We were on the same little league team. It was tough when we went to separate schools but we kept in touch.

“I knew the game was going to keep going or it was going to end right there,” Koehn added. “I knew I had to say something. Our friendship is more important than just the silly outcome of a game. I had to make sure he knew that before we celebrated.”

This touching display of sportsmanship is so rare, and we certainly celebrate it.
