Kent Police Officer Diego Moreno died Sunday. The Venezuela native had spent eight years on the force.The chase began around 2 a.m. Sunday after a red truck was seen leaving a parking lot where gunshots had been reported. At a press conference Sunday, Washington State Patrol District Commander Ron Mead blamed the suspect for Moreno's death.The Washington State Patrol's preliminary investigation indicates that Moreno had deployed spike strips at an intersection to slow the suspect.

But what's catching the attention of most is his extraordinary time in the 100-meter butterfly: 1:09:38. That's a little more than a second faster than the record a young Michael Phelps — now a 28-medal Olympian — set for the same race in 1995. Phelps was about the same age as Apuada when he set that record.

As young Apuada, who's only been swimming for a few years, told CNN, his success in the pool is due to his ability to "balance" his schooling and activities with the help of his family and coaches.
