Joe C. Shelton, Jr., 54, of Pleasant View, was killed last Tuesday as he drove to work at Nissan, like he did every day for 28 years, his family said.

A large piece of concrete, possibly thrown from the Shelby Avenue Bridge, went through the windshield of the Nissan GT-R he was driving.

Shelton was found dead in a multi-car wreck just before 5 a.m. Nov. 20.

The origin of the concrete has yet to be determined MNPD said, although detectives continue to investigate the likelihood it was thrown down onto Interstate 24.

The concrete block was not a part of the makeup of the bridge, police said.

Eleven people -- six bank robbers and five hostages including a child -- were killed Friday in a pre-dawn assault on two banks in a northeast Brazilian city foiled by police, the local mayor said. The violence erupted in the city of Milagres, in the northeastern state of Ceara, with a fierce pre-dawn shootout between the armed robbers and the police. "Our information from the hospital is 11 victims killed -- six bandits and five hostages," the mayor of Milagres, Lielson Landin, told Radio Band News. He said four of the hostages, including the child, were all from the same family.
