Apple reportedly extends Watch return period for heart feature issues

Apple is reportedly extending its Apple Watch refund window from two weeks to 45 days -- but only for returns related to heart health features, including the upcoming electrocardiogram app on Apple Watch Series 4. You'll have to make such refund requests through Apple Support rather than in Apple Stores after the usual 14 days, according to an internal document MacRumors obtained.

Other than the ECG app, the heart features include irregular heart rhythm notifications on several Apple Watch models. Both the ECG function and the notifications could be included in the upcoming watchOS 5.1.2 update.

It's not clear why Apple is reportedly extending the return eligibility period -- the Food and Drug Administration is not requiring it to do so, an agency spokesperson told MacRumors. Engadget has contacted Apple for comment and we'll update this story if it responds.

The Apple Watch’s new ECG app is already saving lives.
After a little bit of a delay, Apple yesterday finally released its long-awaited ECG app for the Apple Watch Series 4. As the name implies, the new app provides users with a relatively convenient way to take an electrocardiogram on their wrist and, in turn, stay abreast of any irregular heart rhythms that might require a visit to the doctor.
