Tim Tebow will likely begin the 2019 baseball season in Triple A , but new Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen didn't rule out that the former NFL quarterback could be on the MLB roster for Opening Day, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi. Tebow , 31, landed on the disabled list in July

Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen: Tim Tebow to start season in Triple-A© Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has stated that Tim Tebow will start the season with Triple-A Syracuse.

Van Wagenen revealed Tebow’s immediate future in the Mets organization during an appearance Wednesday on WFAN. Perhaps even more intriguing, Van Wagenen suggests that if Tebow can continue his development at Triple-A and make significant strides, the football player-turned minor leaguer could end up on Mets manager Mickey Callaway’s big-league roster.

“If Tim Tebow is the best offensive player in Triple-A at that point, he’s going to be in Mickey’s lineup,” Van Wagenen said, via the New York Daily News.

Mets-Mariners 7-player trade involving Cano finalized

Mets-Mariners 7-player trade involving Cano finalized The New York Mets have acquired longtime star second baseman Robinson Cano .

New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen is apparently a believer in the former NFL star, saying Tuesday that he won't rule out the possibility of Tebow making the team's Opening Day roster, according to Van Wagenen noted that the outfielder is likely to begin the year in Triple - A , however.

Tebow ’s 30th birthday, AKA the year Jesus started pumping out miracles, coinciding with the death of the Mets 2017 season and the rebirth of the Yankees 2017 season killed any Speaking of misery, lets check in to see how Brodie ’s best friend in the media reacted to this news! It has already begun.

The first-year general manager, it merits noting, previously served as Tebow's agent before joining the Mets organization.

Before the regime change in the Mets’ front office, it had been expected that Tebow would return to the minors and continue his late-blooming professional baseball career. It certainly appears Van Wagenen has raised the bar significantly for Tebow by green-lighting a Triple-A start for the 31-year-old.

In 84 games last season, Tebow slashed at .273/.336/.399 clip with six home runs; certainly not eye-popping numbers, but not horrible stats, either. Further, Tebow batted .317/.348/.429 in June and July before his season ended due to a broken hamate bone in his right hand that required surgery. All told, there was worthwhile, in-season improvement.

Whether or not Tebow actually can accomplish much at the Triple-A level remains to be seen. That said, the notion of Tebow cracking the Mets’ big-league lineup has to be considered a long shot at this point.

The fact that Van Wagenen has stressed — and acted upon — a philosophy centered around the Mets not embarking upon a rebuild arguably makes Tebow’s ascension to the majors that much more unlikely, barring dramatic, eye-popping improvement in Syracuse.

Report: Mets 'very serious' about Yasmani Grandal, still interested in J.T. Realmuto.
Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen has not stopped knocking on a multitude of doors as he keeps working to improve his just-inherited roster. The latest news involves the team’s efforts to upgrade behind the dish and to boost its outfield mix. While J.T. Realmuto has been — and still is — a top target for the Mets, the club has also been connected to numerous other receiving possibilities on the open market. The New York org is “moving closer to resolution” of its catching situation, per Andy Martino of SNY.tv: NOT saying they’re out on realmuto.
