The Prime Minister will speak this Thursday at 5 p.m. to take stock of the Covid-19 situation in France. Jean Castex is expected to announce new measures. We take stock. The ritual resumed a few weeks ago. Every Thursday, one or more members of the government appear in front of the press to take stock of the epidemic situation in the country and announce new restrictive measures to stop the spread of Covid-19 .

Did the Ile-de-France residents go to replenish their stocks of pulp and toilet paper in supermarkets this afternoon? Did they go green after the announcements, in particular that of the reconfinement, by Emmanuel Macron the day before? Or do they come home earlier than expected from their vacation? It is too early to know, but we already know that, since the measures of Sytadin and the Direction des routes d'Ile-de-France (Dirif) exist, we had never seen this in the middle of the afternoon in recent years.

At 5.30 p.m., Sytadin recorded 637 km of traffic jams on the axes of the region.

Even for the last Thursday of the All Saints holidays, it is an absolutely unprecedented level since 2017: that year, at the height of traffic jams, the Dirif noted an accumulation of 326 km , but it was at 6:18 p.m., and not mid-afternoon. Never in recent years, between 1 and 5 p.m., has the level of traffic jams exceeded 408 km.

Records pulverized

In 2018, at most, the last Thursday of the All Saints holidays, there were barely 83 km of traffic jams at noon.

Last year, in 2019, a peak of 525 km was reached, but at 6:06 p.m.

Even beyond the holiday period, previous records for such an hour during the week are far behind.

On Friday, December 22, 2017, a day of departure for Christmas holidays, at 3:48 p.m., there were only 376 km of traffic jams.

Traffic jams are statistically more important on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The absolute record for traffic jams in Ile-de-France, 739 km, dates back to October 8, 2019. But it was then explained by snowfall.
