The House of Representatives passed a bill that aims to provide services for pregnant and post-partum veterans on Thursday in a bipartisan vote as the chamber approved a total of five bills relating to veterans.

The DOULA for VA Act of 2022 was approved by a vote of 376 to 44, while four other pieces of legislation designed to support and honor U.S. military veterans were also passed. Twelve members did not vote.

Forty-four Republican members of the House voted against the legislation, which had been introduced by Democratic Representative Brenda Lawrence and would require the secretary of veterans affairs "to establish a pilot program to furnish doula services to veterans."

Lawrence, who introduced the bill, welcomed its passage in tweets on Thursday, saying: "This bill takes an important first step to strengthen maternal health care for veterans enrolled in the VA health care system. I urge the Senate to take swift action to solidify this necessary care for our veterans."

The four other veteran-related bills passed by the House on Thursday were the Commitment to Veteran Support and Outreach Act, the Mark O'Brien VA Clothing Allowance Improvement Act, a bill to designate the outpatient clinic of the Department of Veterans Affairs in Greenville, South Carolina, as the "Lance Corporal Dana Cornell Darnell VA Clinic" and the Long-Term Care Veterans Choice Act.
