During an interview with The Global Politico, Morell referenced the failure to collect information and "a failure of imagination" in discussing Russia's election meddling.

"So the failure to see this coming and the failure to take some time before you actually see what's happening is also a collection failure right?" Morell said to Politico's Susan Glasser.

Rep. Rohrabacher to testify before Intelligence Committee about Assange meeting

Rep. Rohrabacher to testify before Intelligence Committee about Assange meeting Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., will testify before the House Select Intelligence Committee this month about a meeting with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange where the two discussed who stole emails from the Democratic National Committee ahead of the 2016 presidential election.WikiLeaks published the emails before voters elected a new president in November of that year. U.S. intelligence officials have said Russia was involved in the theft of Democratic Party emails and tried to influence the election to benefit then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Multiple U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia interfered with the 2016 election to help secure the victory of Donald Trump. Several former senior intelligence officials —including former National Intelligence Director James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan—have

One was the intelligence failure . One was you didn’t brief Congress soon enough, right? Morell: I think it should be required watching for every American. Right? And what you see when you watch that is multiple presidents not only making the wrong decision, but actually lying to the American people.

"It means you haven't penetrated the right places with the right assets - CIA and NSA are the two big ones here - to tell you exactly what the Russians are doing. So it's a couple of important failures there."

Morell also discussed a previous interview with former director of national intelligence James Clapper, in which the former DNI head said he did not know how prevalent of a tool social media was in Russia's efforts.

"If that's true, then it's a failure of imagination that's not dissimilar to the failure of imagination that we had for 9/11. Right?" Morell said.

Morell briefed President George W. Bush daily leading up to and after Sept. 11.

GOP chairman worried by Trump's stance on Russian interference .
“I think there is a lot of, for whatever reason, avoidance of the issue," Rep. Michael McCaul said.
