Former Vice President Joe Biden wished his former White House boss Barack Obama a happy "National Best Friend Day," posting an image of two friendship bracelets with the names "Joe" and "Barack."

In a post on Twitter Saturday, Biden, now a presidential candidate himself, wished Obama happy "#BestFriendsDay" with a picture of the bracelets he used to celebrate his former boss's 55th birthday.

Biden and Obama have been not only an iconic meme duo, but also "friends for life" after the two shared eight years in the White House.

"All those memes? All those memes are basically true," Biden said during a campaign rally for Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum's (D) gubernatorial bid last year. "Except I want to make it clear: Barack did the first friendship bracelet, not me," he joked.

Since announcing his bid for the 2020 presidential nomination, Biden has sought to tie himself closely to Obama, leveraging his close relationship with the former commander-in-chief.

The two have begun to open up more about the extent of their friendship, with Biden saying in late 2017 that the "bromance: memes featuring the duo are "basically true."

Obama - who has pledged to stay neutral in the Democratic primary - stopped short of an endorsement following Biden's campaign launch.

Biden later claimed he "asked President Obama not to endorse."
