U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn took a shot at a key figure in the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump on Friday, and Twitter was not happy about it.

Alexander Vindman's lawyer is not helping him or the impeachment effort

Alexander Vindman's lawyer is not helping him or the impeachment effort Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman is many things, including a Purple Heart recipient who took a bomb for our freedoms in Iraq, a career foreign service officer, and, we're told, a great American patriot. What Vindman is not, however, is an important witness to the impeachment inquiry against President Trump. Unlike other witnesses who have testified publicly, Vindman had extensive direct contact with Trump throughout the spring and summer. But Vindman only witnessed two disturbing events.

Vindictive Vindman broke his chain of command to outsource a policy dispute and oust @realDonaldTrump. All in a bid to advance his deep state agenda. Vindman raised his hand & took an oath to protect the greatest experiment in human history. He lives for something bigger than himself.

Marsha Blackburn (née Wedgeworth; born June 6, 1952) is an American politician and businesswoman serving as the junior United States Senator from Tennessee.

Blackburn’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

Blackburn’s tweet was a reference to Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a decorated Army official who is a central figure in the ongoing impeachment proceedings in Congress. Vindman was on a diplomatic phone call in which Trump pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate the son of one of his chief political rivals, former Vice President Joe Biden.

Several Republican congressmen have accused Vindman of knowing the identity of a whistleblower who first revealed the Ukraine call, launching the impeachment proceeding. Vindman has testified that he does not know the identity of the whistleblower.

Vindman chides Nunes: ‘It’s Lieutenant Colonel Vindman please’

Vindman chides Nunes: ‘It’s Lieutenant Colonel Vindman please’ Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman snapped at ranking Republican Rep. Devin Nunes after he referred to him as “Mr. Vindman.” During his public impeachment testimony on Tuesday, Vindman was taking a line of questioning from Nunes when the California Republican referred to him as “Mr. Vindman” rather than his official military title. “Mr. Vindman, you testified in your deposition that you did not know the whistle-blower,” Nunes said.Vindman replied, “Ranking member, it’s Lieutenant Colonel Vindman please.”Nunes corrected Vindman’s title and repeated the question.

Blackburn has chastised Twitter attacks before

Blackburn’s “Vindictive Vindman” tweet follows in the footsteps of many Trump-era Republicans who have adopted the president’s penchant for dismissive nicknames and Twitter attacks. However, Blackburn criticized this same behavior two years ago.

In a lengthy Facebook post in June 2017, Blackburn chastised the president’s belittling tweets as beneath his office.

“We are blessed to live in a country where we are free to express our opinions, no matter how inflammatory or hyperbolic,” Blackburn wrote. “As a legislator, I work daily to protect those freedoms. But we ought also to remember that we are all a part of a greater humanity, and that civility in our interactions — both personal and digital — is not only proper, but fundamental to a respectful and prosperous society.”

Blackburn has become an increasingly fierce supporter of Trump. She has publicly supported his controversial immigration policy and judicial appointments and has dismissed the impeachment proceedings as a "kangaroo court." However, Blackburn has broken with Trump on a few issues, most notably his abrupt military withdrawal from Syria.
