Boebert — whose Rifle, Colo., restaurant advertises the fact that its wait staff open-carries firearms — hit Tipton for his record on immigration and co-sponsoring coronavirus legislation that would give aid to local governments. She has said that she hopes the elaborate “QAnon” conspiracy theory that sinister forces inside the government are working to thwart President Donald Trump is true.

Tipton, a fifth-term congressman from Colorado’s Western Slope who earned Trump’s endorsement for reelection, is the fourth incumbent to be ousted this year. He joins Reps. Dan Lipinski (D-Ill.), Steve King (R-Iowa) and Denver Riggleman (R-Va.). Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) trails his Democratic challenger, Jamaal Bowman, in last week’s New York primary, but there are still many absentee ballots left to tally.

Boebert will face Democrat Diane Mitsch Bush, who lost to Tipton in 2018 by 8 percentage points, in the November general election.

Congress could see an influx of QAnon conspiracists join its ranks following this year's election cycle .
The QAnon conspiracy theory claims that the world is run by a Satanic cabal of elites intent on bringing down the Trump presidency. It alleges, among other things, that the former special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed to investigate Hillary Clinton, former President Barack Obama, and other top Democrats who opposed Trump; that the so-called American "deep state" tried to shoot down Air Force One before Trump's summit in North Korea last year.
