Dr. Jill Biden dismissed a question about her husband Joe Biden'son the campaign trail.
In a socially distant interview in Norfolk, Virginia that aired on Sunday, CNN anchor Jake Tapper brought up the first debate against President Trump on Tuesday and was unable to finish asking Biden about her husband making "the occasional gaffe" before she shut the question down.
"Oh, you can’t even go there. After Donald Trump you cannot even say the word gaffe," she said during the interview.
Majority of Voters Less Likely to Support Trump if Barrett Helps Overturn Roe v. Wade, Poll Finds
A majority of Americans say they would be less likely to vote for President Donald Trump if his Supreme Court nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, helps overturn Roe v. Wade—a move she's previously expressed support for alongside doubts the court could ever fully reverse the landmark abortion ruling. © CHIP SOMODEVILLA / Staff/Getty Images Seventh U.S. Circuit Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett speaks after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that she will be his nominee to the Supreme Court in the Rose Garden at the White House September 26, 2020 in Washington, DC.
Tapper, who was laughing at her response, tried to lean back into the question, but Biden wouldn't have it. "Done. It's gone. ... Over, so over," she said. Tapper then moved on with his next question about Trump's comments regarding a peaceful transition of power.
Biden's stumbles have been a staple of his career for years, but in recent months the Trump campaign has questioned whether they are a sign of cognitive decline.
Trump said on Sunday that he would bethat both he and the former vice president take a drug test before the debates to ensure they are not taking any sort of enhancers.
Mrs. Biden said she is not concerned about her husband's performance in the debates.
"He’s ready. You know, one of the things I am excited for is when the American people see Joe Biden up there on that stage. They’re going to see what a president looks like. You know, someone who is, like I’m saying, calm, steady, strong, resilient," she said.
Trump says he's 'strongly demanding' Biden is drug tested ahead of their first presidential debate
Trump has speculated that Biden's past debate performance was enhanced by drugs. In 2016, he made similar accusations against Hillary Clinton."I will be strongly demanding a Drug Test of Sleepy Joe Biden prior to, or after, the Debate on Tuesday night," Trump tweeted Sunday. "Naturally, I will agree to take one also. His Debate performances have been record setting UNEVEN, to put it mildly.
"It’s like night and day between the two candidates. And so I can’t wait for the American people to see Joe, to see that statesman up there in front of the American public," she added.
