Fact check: Election unlikely to be decided in the House, even if Trump refuses to concede Even if the election results were contested and Trump doesn't concede, experts have agreed that it is unlikely for Trump to win the election this way. Our fact-check sources: Shane Vaughn, Nov. 8 Facebook video USA TODAY, Nov. 5: “No presidential candidate in modern history has refused to concede, but there's no law that requires it” Cornell Law School Legal Information Institute, 12th Amendment United States House of Representatives History, Art & Archives, Electoral College & Indecisive Elections Excess of Democracy, Sept.

The claim: George Soros was arrested in Philadelphia for election-related crimes

George Soros is a billionaire investor and philanthropist who has donated to liberal and anti-authoritarian causes worldwide. As a result, he has long been the target of conspiracy theories, and 2020 has been no different.

Some claimed false associations between Soros and Moderna, one of the companies working to develop a coronavirus vaccine. Others baselessly claimed he helped to finance and transport protesters to Black Lives Matter demonstrations.

George Soros Breaks Silence on Right-Wing Conspiracies

George Soros Breaks Silence on Right-Wing Conspiracies George Soros has, over the past two decades, emerged as perhaps the biggest boogeyman in not only right-wing conspiracy circles but also among the right-wing media and Republican politicians, who have increasingly mirrored their most fantasy-minded adherents. They frequently cast the 90-year-old billionaire investor and liberal philanthropist as a “puppet-master” (Glenn Beck’s actual words) sowing chaos behind the scenes—a well-worn anti-Semitic caricature—and credit him (without a shred of evidence, mind you) with bankrolling everything from antifa, the decentralized anti-fascist activist group, to Black Lives Matter protests.

Recently, a new claim surfaced: that Soros has been arrested for election-related crimes and is in federal custody in Philadelphia.

The claim first appeared Nov. 23 on Conservative Beaver, a website that brands itself as providing "stories of interest to Proud Canadians."

"According to what appears to be a recently unsealed indictment filed in the West District of Pennsylvania, Soros committed a slew of serious crimes prior to the US election," its story reads.

As evidence, its story links to photos of the purported indictment on Twitter.

"The indictment focuses only on the criminal activity Soros allegedly participated in prior to the election, such as wire fraud, identity theft, and damage to computers," it continues. "None of these claims have been proven in court, and Soros is believed innocent until proven guilty."

Fact check: Wayne County Board of Canvassers voted twice on certifying election results

Fact check: Wayne County Board of Canvassers voted twice on certifying election results The Wayne County Board of Canvassers didn't "refuse" to certify election results. After an initial tie, the board unanimously agreed to certify results. The lawsuit asks the judge to block the county Board of Canvassers from certifying election results if they contain fraudulent ballots and alleges that election officials backdated late-received ballots and excluded challengers from a “meaningful opportunity” to observe ballot processing.

The claim later made its way to Facebook, where users posted screenshots of articles about the purported arrest.

Conservative Beaver and the user behind the post on Facebook have not responded to requests from USA TODAY for comment.

Fact check: Trump lawyer Sidney Powell falsely stated he won election 'by a landslide'

Soros has not been  arrested; indictment was photoshopped

In reality, Soros has not been arrested for any election-related crimes. Conservative Beaver bases all its claims on photos ofan indictment — but it isn't real.

It's actually a doctored version of a bonafide indictment brought against six Russian hackers that the Department of Justice announced on Oct. 19.

In fact, that indictment is identical to the one that Conservative Beaver claims is against Soros, down to "Criminal No. 20-316" and its distinctive stamps.

Take a look at the real indictment here.

Fact check: Claim that voting noncitizens affected 2020 election outcome is unverified

Fact check: Claim that voting noncitizens affected 2020 election outcome is unverified A possible count of noncitizen voter turnout relies on Census estimates, not registration data. The claim is unproven and missing context.Experts say the lawsuits will likely fail, but a public policy research firm found merit in the Trump campaign’s complaints.

The only difference? The names of six hackers were photoshopped out, and replaced with "Schwartz Gyorgy aka George Soros."

Under his name, the photoshopped indictment still states, "Defendants," as if there were multiple individuals charged — another giveaway that it's not real.

There is no other evidence or credible media reports to suggest that Soros has been arrested or charged with any wrongdoing.

A representative from Soros' Open Society Foundations also told PolitiFact that the claim that he had been arrested is "entirely false."

Lead Stories and FactCheck.org also concluded that the claim is false.

Fact check: Trump lawyer Sidney Powell falsely stated he won election 'by a landslide'

Fact check: Trump lawyer Sidney Powell falsely stated he won election 'by a landslide' A meme correctly quotes onetime Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell. But her assertion that he won the election "by a landslide" is false.“We are not going to be intimidated. We are not going to back down. We are going to clean this mess up. President Trump won by a landslide and we are going to prove it. We are going to reclaim the United States of America,” reads a Facebook meme.
